A few years ago when my father passed away, I created a painting of him walking down a path, through a woods into a clearing. I got to know my father more the last few years of his life when we would travel to northern Michigan and spend time hunting morels. So in the painting I envisioned him walking with disregard for the morels into a new world. I wrote a verse that went along with the painting and here it is;
This print depicts a special person who has spent his life in appreciation of the woods and fauna surrounding him. There comes a time, a moment when one understands his destiny and the time to reflect upon his past is no longer the comfort that it once was. Life is a very short walk, the comfort belongs to the future and in a belief so strong that a mere obstacle such as death is only a clearing to a more glorious and contented existence.
Earlier this autumn Brian Morrison from Boyne City seen a print of the painting at the Freshwater Gallery in Boyne City, they are kind enough to carry a few of my morel paintings as prints. I received a letter from Robin Lee Berry, an owner of the gallery and she included 2 different poems that Brian wrote after seeing the print. I want to thank Brian for such thoughtful and moving words!
